KARACHI: Gang-war in Lyari claims two more lives

KARACHI, Jan 23: There was no let up in the Lyari gang-war during the Eid days as two members of the rivals were gunned down and two passers-by were wounded.

Police said that Ghulam Nabi, 50, a close associate of Rehman Dakait, ringleader of one gang, was shot dead allegedly by some members of the rival gang on Saturday in the limits of Baghdadi police station.

Two passers-by, Anwar and Zahid, were injured in the firing. Police said that Zahid Husain and Zubair, active members of the Arshad Pappu gang, were nominated as accused in the FIR of the incident.

In what seems to be a counter attack, Mohammad Saleem, 35, a member of the Pappu gang, was shot dead at Dubai Chowk on Sunday, police said. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital after being critically wounded but pronounced dead on arrival.

CLASH: At Gabol Park in Lyari, a man was killed and three others were wounded when two groups clashed over some petty issue on Sunday. Police said that some people were playing cards in the park and came to blows over some dispute. In the ensuing shooting, four persons sustained bullet wounds and were rushed to the Civil Hospital where one of them, Kamran, was pronounced dead on arrival.

SHOT DEAD: A policeman was shot dead by unknown suspects in Gizri late Thursday night. Police said that two policemen were patrolling the area on their motorcycle.

They noticed some suspects near the P&T Colony and tried to question them but the suspects resorted to shooting at the policemen and fled. One of the policemen, Zulfiqar, sustained injuries and rushed to a hospital where died on Friday.

MURDERS: A young man was killed when he objected to eve-teasing by two persons in Rehri Goth on Saturday. Police said that Abdul Hafeez, 30, was standing at the gate of his house in the goth located in the limits of the Sukkah police station.

He saw two youths who were teasing some passing girls. He tried to stop them but they attacked him. Police said that the accused choked Hafeez, who had recently undergone a throat surgery, to death. The suspect then fled from the scene, police said, adding that the local residents identified them as Hasan and Faiz.

In Sohrab Goth area, a junk dealer was shot dead by on Friday. Police said that Toour Khan, 30, was lived along with his brother Gul Noor in Jamali Goth. On Friday morning, someone knocked at the door of his house and as he came out, he was shot dead.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said the attackers fled from the scene. Police attributed the murder to some personal enmity.

A man was killed while trying to snatch a motorcycle in North Nazimabad on Thursday night. Police said that three armed men tried to snached motorcycle from Ejaz, who put up resistance, during which Fareed sustained bullet injury which proved fatal.
