RAWALPINDI: 6 killed in separate incidents

RAWALPINDI, Jan 23: As many as six people were killed, while two persons, including an under-trial prisoner, tried to commit suicide in separate incidents in Rawalpindi and Islamabad during Eid holidays, police said.

Sohail Ahmed, 25, committed suicide by shooting himself due to domestic unrest at Kirpa village in Islamabad, the police said. In another incident, a 35-year-old woman, identified as Shahida Bibi, was killed after a cab (FDK-3990) in which she was coming to Islamabad from Bharakahu overturned at Dhokri chowk on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Rafi, a resident of RA Bazaar area, was found dead in a dry well on Saturday, the police said. According to preliminary police report, Rafi went out of his house to dispose of offal but did not return.

On search, his body was found lying in a near by dry well. Police have been investigating into the incident to ascertain whether he was thrown into the well or he slipped. Meanwhile, two persons were killed in separate road accidents in Rawalpindi, while a girl was found strangled, police said.

In the first incident, Mohammad Fareed told Airport police that his mother was hit by a speeding car. She was shifted to the hospital in critical condition where she died.

In another incident, Mohammad Riaz told Westridge police that he along with Sagheer Hussain was going on his motorbike when a military vehicle, driven by Shahbaz Ahmed, hit them. Both men were shifted to the hospital where Sagheer died.

An 11-year-old girl was found dead near Golra Railway Station on Sunday night, police said. Asima, daughter of Salamat Ali, went missing on Sunday morning from her house. After failing to find her, the girl's parents and relatives sought police help.

During the search, the girl's body was found from near the Golra Railway Station. Preliminary police report suggested that the girl had been strangled. Meanwhile, an under-trial prisoner, identified as Amjad, allegedly attempted suicide by taking some toxic medicines at Adiala Jail.

He was shifted to the DHQ hospital where he was said to be in critical condition. In a similar incident, a 26-year-old man, Kamran, tried to commit suicide by setting himself on fire at Raheemabad on Saturday, the police said.

Kamran was taken to the DHQ hospital with 85 per cent burns. The police, while quoting his family members, said Kamran had been in distress for some time which drove him to commit suicide.

ROBBERIES: Seven robberies and three burglaries were committed while three motorbikes stolen from different parts of Rawalpindi during Eid holidays, police said.
