KARACHI, Jan 23: The city's cleanliness situation remained satisfactory during Eid holidays owing to timely lifting of offal by the sanitary staff of town municipal administrations.
However, heaps of garbage and leftover material of sacrificial animals which was dumped at roadsides remained littered in several localities, thereby creating an unhygienic condition, besides presenting an ugly sight to residents and passers by.
Various town municipal administrations in collaboration with union councils concerned had made arrangements for lifting and disposing of offal from their selected collection spots which they had set up in different union councils.
As most of the TMAs are short of refuse collecting vans they had hired vans for expeditiously lifting offal from their respective jurisdictions and disposing them of at garbage dumping grounds.
A spokesperson for the Gulshan town administration said that the town's staff had lifted a total of 95,000 offal till Sunday afternoon and buried them at a temporary garbage transfer station established by the town near Safoora roundabout for using them as fertilizer at some later stage.
"The town had saved a considerable amount under the head of fertilizer and diesel as the offal which was buried last year at the garbage transfer station had yielded good quality fertilizer worth Rs3 million," she added.
Meanwhile, Naib Nazim Tariq Hasan has said that animals more than any other city were slaughtered in Karachi but the sanitation and offal removal arrangements remained exemplary and worth appreciation in the cosmopolitan city, adds PPI.

He further said that this was evident from the fact that less number of complaints were received at the complaint centres this year.
