LAHORE: Rain proves a mixed blessing

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 23: Rain on Eid and the following day in Lahore and several other cities in the province lowered temperatures, forcing people to stay indoors to protect themselves against the cold wave.

In Lahore, rain started in the afternoon on Eid and continued till the evening of Saturday with brief intervals. Cool breeze that accompanied the showers made people stay at their homes.

Short supply of gas in many localities and frequent power breakdowns added to the problems of people, who yearned for cozy homes during the over 36-hour rainy spell. The meteorological office recorded 16mm of rain on the Jail Road and 16.7mm at the airport.

The maximum temperature on Friday was 14.3 degrees Celsius, on Saturday 11.2 degrees and on Sunday 13.6 degrees C. The minimum temperature was 9.4 degrees C (Friday), 7.5 degrees (Saturday) and 6.4 degrees C (Sunday).

Weather conditions improved a bit on Sunday after clouds gave way to sun to give warmth to the city. According to the Met office, Sargodha received 3.7mm of rain, Jhelum 11.4mm, Sahiwal 2.1mm, Faisalabad 9.3mm, Dera Ghazi Khan 3mm, Mandi Bahauddin 7.2mm and Sialkot recorded 32.8mm of rain. It has forecast a partly cloudy weather for Lahore and other cities in the Punjab during the next 24 hours.
