LAHORE, Jan 23: Four children and two women were perished when a fire broke out in their apartment in the Tibbi City on Eid day.
Shomaila Bibi (27) and her three children - Sangam (8) Mah Noor (5) and Ali Raza (3) and infant nephew Ali Abbas - were asleep at the fourth floor of a building at Newan Mohallah when a quilt caught fire after falling on a gas heater of their room.
The fire engulfed the room. Shomaila's mother Syeda Bibi, who was asleep in the adjacent room, was electrocuted while trying to save them. Neighbours initiated rescue efforts which was later joined by police and fire brigade.
The fire fighters battled about half-an-hour to extinguish the fire. Shomaila, Sangam, Ali Raza were burnt alive while Mah Noor and Abbas Ali suffered severe burn injuries. They were rushed to the Mayo Hospital where they also died. The bodies were handed over to the family without autopsy.
ACCIDENT: Three people were killed in accidents in the city during Eid days. Moin Butt (15) of Samanabad was going to meet his relatives in Nawankot when a speeding bus hit him. He suffered serious injuries and was hastened to hospital where he died.
Kashif (18) reportedly lost control over his motorcycle which rammed into an electric pole. He suffered head injuries and was rushed to the Mayo Hospital where he died.
Omair Butt, 24, was on his way home to Data Nagar on a motorcycle when it hit against a manhole at New Anarkali. He fell on the road and sustained serious injuries. He was admitted to the Mayo Hospital where he perished.
SUICIDE: A youth allegedly committed suicide in Green Town on Eid day. Muhammad Bilal (17), admonished by his father for smoking, locked himself in a room and took poison. He was admitted to the Mayo Hospital where he died.
FOUND DEAD: Two unidentified elderly men were found dead in Bhati and Mozang areas on Eid days. Police claimed that the men were drug addicts.
