India tests Trishul missile

NEW DELHI, Jan 19; India test-fired on Wednesday a short-range surface-to-air missile that can target aircraft and intercept sea-skimming missiles, the PTI said.

The home grown Trishul (Trident) missile was successfully tested from a mobile launcher at 12:53 pm (0723 GMT) in Chandipur, 200 kilometres north east of Bhubaneshwar, capital of eastern Orissa state, the report said.

The report further said that an unmanned micro light aircraft was used as the support system for target acquisition of the missile. Trishul, one of five missiles developed by India since 1983, is powered by solid fuel and can deliver a 15-kilogramme warhead up to nine kilometres away. -AFP
