LAHORE: Marathon historic event - Pervaiz

LAHORE, Jan 19: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Wednesday the Lahore Marathon would prove a historic even with regard to recreation and sports Athletes from 22 countries would participate in the marathon being held on Jan 30.

This would go a long way in promoting sports activities, he said while presiding over a meeting to review arrangements for the event here. The chief minister said the participation of a large number of people in the marathon would promote healthy activities.

He said people would have the opportunity to watch an international level event besides taking part in it. Mr Elahi directed the district government, police, sports and other departments to make efforts to make the event a success.

He also directed Lahore DIG and SSP (operations) to make foolproof security arrangements for the guests and people. He directed the Lahore DCO to take concrete steps to ensure cleanliness in the city.

Task Force chairman Ghaus Akbar said the people would participate in the Lahore Marathon with enthusiasm. He appreciated the private sector for providing resources for the race, which would be inaugurated by the chief minister.
