GAZA, Jan 18: A Hamas suicide bomber blew himself up near Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday shortly after Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas arrived in the occupied territory to press militants to lay down their arms.
Rescue workers and witnesses said at least five Israelis and two Palestinians were wounded. Hamas claimed responsibility for what it described as a "martyrdom operation" at an army checkpoint of Jewish settlements. -Reuters
