MARDAN, Jan 18: A district meeting of the Awami National Party (ANP) was held here on Tuesday to discuss and finalize arrangements for the 14th death anniversary of the Khudai Khidmatgar Tehrik (KKT) founder, Khan Abdul Ghafar Khan , and the forthcoming local bodies' election in Mardan district.

The meeting was presided over by its district president, Rehmat Gul Takhadar, and it was attended by office-bearers of 74 Union Councils of the district. The provincial joint secretary of the ANP, Amir Haider Khan Hoti, while speaking on this occasion, chalked out a comprehensive plan both for local bodies polls and for the death anniversary of Bacha Khan, which would be observed on Feb 10 at Hoti Park.

He disclosed that Mardan district has been divided into eight areas and he asked the office-bearers of the party to show their strength on that day by bringing at least 500 people from every Thapa for the anniversary and he hoped that the anniversary would be successful.

The son of former communication minister Azam Khan Hoti, Amir Haider Khan Hoti disclosed that, however, the province has given complete power to make adjustments with other parties in the district.

He opined that the ANP would try to avoid adjustments and would field all its Nazims and councillors. He claimed that the party was in the position to contest the election on its own resources.

He hoped that he would be able to bag the majority of seats in the next polls. On the occasion, the office bearers of the party also presented their suggestions, which were noted and would be discussed in the next meeting of the party.
