Aziz stresses need for finding just solution to Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD, Jan 17: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday called for finding a just and equitable solution to the longstanding Kashmir problem which should reflect the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Talking to the executive directors of the Kashmir Centre from European Union, who met him at the PM House, Mr Aziz underlined the need for seeking a just solution of the Kashmir problem which was a prerequisite for establishing lasting and durable peace in South Asia.

The delegation included Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, Ghulam Nabi Fai and Pervez Ahmed Shawl. He said a lasting peace alone could guarantee an acceleration of economic development in the region.

He hoped that the ongoing composite dialogue between Pakistan and India will enable the two sides to find a just, peaceful and negotiated settlement of the dispute. Mr Aziz said: "Progress in our relations with India would be in tandem with progress on the Kashmir issue."

While reiterating Pakistan's continued political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people's struggle, the prime mistier observed that a solution to the dispute would require demonstration of sincerity, flexibility, courage and magnanimity by all stakeholders.

He praised the role of the Kashmir Centre and said it was helping in crystallizing and mobilizing international public opinion for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.
