SKARDU, Jan 17: The authorities allowed two hours' break in curfew in Skardu and Gamba from 10am to 12 noon on Monday after five days. "The situation remained calm and peaceful.

No untoward incident took place during the curfew relaxation and the people fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies," a press note issued by the deputy commissioner said.

It added that the district administration had decided to relax curfew on Tuesday for three hours - from 9am to 12 noon. During this interval, stranded passengers can take PIA flights.

During the curfew relaxation on Monday, a large number of people flocked to shops, vegetable markets, medical stores and other shopping areas to buy essential commodities.

The security forces continued patrol on roads and streets. A great crowd of people was witnessed purchasing edible items. Long queues of vehicles were also seen on petrol pumps.
