MIRPURKHAS, Jan 16: DCO Mohammad Siddique Memon has said that all possible help will be extended to deserving people.
He was speaking at a cheque distributing ceremony held by the district government on Saturday for close relatives of 14 persons who died or were injured in a road accident near Mirwah Gorchani on Jan 28, 2004.
DPO Altaf Bhatti and UC nazims were also present on the occasion. The DCO said cheque for Rs50,000 to the family of each dead person and Rs10,000 tothe family of each injured were being distributed on the recommendation of the district council.
He announced a grant of Rs100,000 on behalf of the district government for two injured girls who were still in hospital. The DCO urged EDO health Dr Hadi Bux Laghari to meet with the injured girls and provide them all possible medical aid. UC Mirwah Gorchani Nazim Ehsanul Haq thanked the district government.
DRUG DENS: Residents of the Pak colony have expressed concern over running of narcotic dens under the patronage of police. Talking to newsmen at the press club on Sunday, Akbar Khan, Sadiq, Luqman, Noshad Ahmad and Saeed Ahmad alleged that Ameen Baloch and Feica were openly running narcotic dens after greasing the palm of SHO Khuda Bux Panhwar.
They said several people had become addicts of heroin, charas, opium and liquor due to this den. They alleged youths and children were forced to buy drugs from the den as a result a number of addicts had increased manifold. They demanded that Sindh chief minister should take prompt action against drug dealers.
MMA: The president of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Mirpurkhas city, Lala Noor Mohammad, has expressed resentment over the sale of narcotic in the city. In a press statement issued on Sunday, he said DPO Altaf Bhatti had not taken any action against drug dealers.
He demanded that sale of gutka, paan, supari and Mainpuri should be banned. He said elected representatives of the area were paying no attention to the issues.
He warned if the authorities did not take action against the narcotic dens and sale of unhealthy and intoxicated gutka, paan supari and mainpuri was not banned, the MMA would launch a protest campaign against the police.
