KARACHI: Nature Carnival today

KARACHI, Jan 15: The 'Nature Carnival for 2005', a regular annual feature of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF - Pakistan) will be held at the PAF Museum on Sunday with 50 different schools of the city to display their three-dimensional models on various environmental themes.

According to sources in the WWF - Pakistan, models developed on the themes provided by the organisers include 'Birds of Pakistan', being prepared by students of classes one and two, 'Wild Flowers of Pakistan' by classes three and four, 'Mangrove Eco System' by classes five and six, 'Coastal Areas of Pakistan' by classes seven and eight and 'Alternative Energy' by classes nine and ten.

The nature carnival, being held for the fourth consecutive year, is also being participated by 15 different countries. According to the organisers, evaluation of the exhibits will be made by a panel of five judges, and prizes will be awarded to the winning schools in each category.

Shields will be presented to the top two corporate stalls. Awards will be given at the end of the carnival, in a prize distribution ceremony. A fun fair, live music, lucky draw, magic show, puppet show, interactive games and a fancy dress show are some of the other activities planned for the event, which will start at 8am and continue till 5.30pm.

It may be mentioned that the WWF - Pakistan has been organising such activities at regular intervals across the country to help sustain its conservation and educational initiatives about environmental issues, and raise funds for the purpose.

The Nature Carnival involves corporate concerns, educational institutions and the general public, offering them an excellent opportunity to talk about significance of nature conservation. - APP
