KOHAT: Students' protest

Published January 16, 2005

KOHAT, Jan 15: The students of Government Polytechnic College blocked the Kohat Rawalpindi road for several hours on Saturday to protest against the arrest of a fellow student by the law-enforcement agencies.

The protesters were demanding early release of the student. Mumtaz, a resident of Muzaffarabad, was picked up allegedly by the Military Intelligence personnel near the Bannu Gate police post on Wednesday evening, sources confirmed.

The police said that nobody had contacted them to lodge an FIR. Mumtaz was going to bazaar with a friend when plainclothesmen in a grey pick-up intercepted him.

The law-enforcement agencies personnel forced Mumtaz into the vehicle and drove to an unknown destination, the sources said. The blockade was lifted at 2pm after senior police officials assured the students that their missing fellow would be traced and recovered soon.
