'MMA not solving people's problems'
By Our Correspondent
PESHAWAR, Jan 14: Condemning series of protest demonstrations by the MMA, the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) NWFP has announced a campaign of public contact on every issue of national importance.
Provincial Secretary of Information PML (Q), Moazam Bhutt said at a press conference here on Friday said that his party had contested the general elections for the continuation of Gen Pervez Musharraf's economic policies.
He claimed that purpose of the formation of central government was also to implement the policies of Musharraf. Contrary to it, the MMA government was formed for the Creating Taliban-like government in the province, he remarked. He criticized the leaders of the MMA who made issues out of non-issues and later on accepted all such matters as they accepted the LFO.
Although the MMA didn't accept the uniformed president, Gen Musharraf was performing the duty of a president after Dec 31, 2004, he observed. Presently, the religious parties were making an issue of the deletion of religion column from machine readable passport, he added.
Although, Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain and interior minister had assured on several occasions that religion column would be restored in the passport but still the MMA was making hue and cry and holding protest demonstrations, he said.
Mr Moazam regretted that prices of daily essential items were out of reach of the common people in NWFP but the provincial government took no step in this regard. During the MMA government, poverty further increased, he added. He said that law and order situation was not satisfactory and kidnapping of new-born children from the hospital had become routine of the day.
Only holding of protest demonstration could not solve basic problems of people, he said and added that it required continues struggle on the part of government. He said that PML was ready to debate with the MMA leaders on every issue openly.
"We can remove the MMA government within few hours but we don't have such intentions," he claimed. Dr Seemin Mehmood Jan, MPA, speaking on the occasion said that from Friday, the party had started the public contact drive. "We are starting the drive to keep province on path of development," she observed.
