KARACHI, Jan 14: The initial findings of the medico-legal examination of Dr Shazia Khalid, who was raped in the hostel of the Sui Field Hospital of Pakistan Petroleum , suggested that she was raped eight to ten days back, well-placed sources in police surgeon office Karachi and Balochistan police said.

Her medical examination was carried out on Thursday night at the police surgeon office in Karachi. She was accompanied by her husband, relatives, and police officials at the time of medical examination.

Referring to her statement, the sources quoted Dr Shazia as saying that on the night of Jan 2, she fell asleep soon after she entered her room in the hostel at the Sui Field Hospital of the PPL.

She woke up when she felt pain as someone was pulling her hair. She got panicky having found someone in the room and looked for something to hit the unknown person. She got a telephone set, placed on the side of her bed, and hit the intruder with force.

She told the investigators that the man suffered head injury and blood started oozing from his head. She tried to escape, but the man abruptly grabbed her and started beating her severely.

She stated, the sources said, that as the man started fastening her hands with a telephone wire, she tried to cry for help. The intruder warned her that one Majid was standing outside, and if she would not keep quiet, she would be burnt to death. She could not identify the man due to the darkness in the room. She got frightened and the man tied her legs and subsequently raped her.

The medico-legal examiners found bruises on her writs and ankles, which suggested that she was tied with a wire-like thing. The contusion marks and nail-scratches were also found at different parts of her body, which were inflicted 8-10 days back, the sources added.

However, the final report of the medico-legal examination would be issued after the receipt of chemical examination as the vaginal specimen was sent for laboratory test.

According to initial findings, on the basis of symptoms and observation, the rape had been established and laboratory test would further corroborate the initial findings, the sources maintained.

The official sources claimed that the bed sheet with blood stains, broken hair and condom were found from the lady doctor's hostel room, which were sent for medical examination. The sources said that some people in the hostel were also associated with the investigation process, and were being questioned.
