PESHAWAR: Two brothers convicted of murder

By Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Jan 14: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday convicted two brothers of murder and sentenced one of them to death and the other to life imprisonment.

The judge, Jamal Khan, observed that the prosecution had proved its case against Jawed and Shakirullah, sons of Juma Khan. Jawed was awarded death sentence with a fine of Rs50,000 and Shakirullah was sentenced to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs30,000. Their co-accused Mir Salam was acquitted.

The accused were charged with killing Jandol Khan on Jan 12, 2002, in Gulbahar area. The FIR was lodged by Asif Khan, brother of the victim. He stated that his family had an enmity with the accused. The accused were charged under Section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code.

The public prosecutor argued that the accused were directly charged in the FIR. He stated that there was enough evidence on record to prove their involvement in the offence.

SENTENCED: An anti-terrorism court presided over by Shahjee Rehman Khan sentenced a man, Malikzada Khan, to seven years' rigorous imprisonment on three counts for kidnapping three children for ransom. The court ruled that the terms would run concurrently. The accused had kidnapped Danish, 11; Iqra, nine, and Hilal, six, while they were going to school.
