ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered Rs670 million in 37 plea bargains and voluntary return deals during the last six months of 2004.
The NAB has issued a list of voluntary return and plea-bargain cases approved according to the provisions of the NAB Ordinance, 1999, during July to December 2004. According to the list, Abdul Saeed, son of Ghulam Mohyuddin, director WRSM Trading Company, paid back Rs70.2 million liabilities. He was accused of committing a wilful loan default, with three others accused.
In a separate case, Sheikh Muhammad Mansoor, son of Muhammad Hayat, managing director PASBAN Cooperative Finance Corporation (PCFC), returned Rs180 million a plea bargain. An assistant estate officer Islamabad, Nazir Ahmed Lakhiyar, son of Muhammad Saddiq, in connivance with others, had carried out illegal processing of hiring of houses for government employees, for which he paid Rs23,000 liabilities.
Another official of the Estate Office Islamabad, sub-inspector Mubarak Ali, son of Chaudhry Taj Din, in connivance with others, had carried out illegal processing of hiring of houses for government employees in Islamabad. He paid Rs40,250 to the bureau.
Mian Muhammad Luqman, son of Mian Miraj Din, was accused of acquiring property at a throw away price with malafide intention and misappropriation. He had to paid Rs70,231 liabilities. A deputy chief engineer in PTCL, Muhammad Irshad Chughtai, was accused of illegally using financial powers. He paid Rs23 million to the NAB.
An ex-line superintendent in Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO, Wapda) Amanullah Khan, paid Rs0.7 million for a loss of Rs1,899,005, and Rs1,467,971, while carrying out electrification works at Chak Buzurg and Dheenda Kalan villages, Gujrat, respectively.
A former MPA and chairman Zila Council Kasur, Chaudhry Hakim Ali, in connivance with the officials of ex-management of the National Industrial Finance Corporation, fraudulently embezzled a huge amount.
His personal liability were Rs39 million including 3.5 per cent mark-up and liquidation charges at the rate of 2 per cent as on July 30, 2004. He paid Rs3.9 million to the NAB.
An ex-electrical foreman of the Pakistan Railways, Karachi, Ilyas Ahmad allegedly misused his authority, indulged in embezzlement of government funds in connivance with others. He had to pay Rs300,000. A director Still Rich, Financial Services (Pvt) Ltd, Lahore, Dr Javed Shabkhez Rab, paid Rs20 million.
According the NAB's list, accused Ghulam Farid, through Dr Kamran Ali Muhammad, proprietor Hajiani Day & Night Hospital Hyderabad, was allegedly involved in receiving payments against bogus and exaggerated medical bills of employees of the Postal Services Corporation. The total payment worked out by the investigation officer was Rs29 million. They paid Rs1 million.
A contractor of the Pakistan Railways, Muhammad Azim Baig, was accused of carrying out supply of civil engineering items. In that, with the connivance of Railways Officials, he caused a loss of Rs0.8 million to the national exchequer. He paid Rs300,000 million.
Tahir Suleman, proprietor and partner Sakhi Soap Factory Faislabad, in connivance with Land Acquisition Staff, submitted fake claims for compensation. He had to pay Rs1.8 million to the NAB.
Muhammad Siddique, an ex assistant electrical engineer, Pakistan Railways in connivance with others had made payments on bogus/exaggerated bills to contractors. He paid liabilities of Rs0.4 million.
Malik Pervez Hayat, director of M/s Hayat Vinyle (Pvt) Limited, was accused of committing wilful default of IDBP loan granted in 1988. He paid Rs130 million Maj Sardar Ghulam Arshad (retd) of M/s Chanjah Woolen Mills Private Limited was involved in a wilful loan default and paid Rs2.6 million.
According to the list, an accused Mohammad Amin paid Rs52,405. Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf paid Rs0.8 million, Chaudhry Hakim Ali paid Rs0.9 million, Muhammad Adam Rs20 million, Akhtar Nawaz Malik Rs0.3 million, Humayun Khan Rs0.5 million, Muhammad Ishaq Rs0.9 million, Javed Iqbal Rs0.8 million, Muhammad Farooq Rs0.2 million, Khalid Iqbal Rs0.1 million, Muhammad Irshad Rs1.1 million, Gulzar Ahmed Rs1.1 million, Abdul Rehman Rs46,000, Mehmood Trunkwala Rs323.80 million, Muhammad Adam Rs170 million, Zahid Shah Rs0.2 million and Muqam Shah Rs0.5 million.
