GUJRANWALA, Jan 12: The district bar association president has allegedly committed various irregularities and adjourned the meeting without approval of the annual audit report.

This was said by auditor Sohail Akram Malik advocate while presenting the report in the house here on Wednesday. The report said bar president Chaudhry Saifullah Cheema and some members collected Rs3.8 million from lawyers for constructing Kiani and Fatima Jinnah chambers and later withdrew heavy sum from the accounts without any approval of the house.

It said the president purchased 12-kanal agricultural land for the construction of lawyers' welfare hospital costing Rs4.7 million and paid Rs1.2 million as advance to the contractor without taking bar members into confidence.

The audit report suggested an inquiry by a three-member committee of lawyers. Meanwhile, Mr Cheema denied the allegations and claimed that the report had been approved by the house.
