HYDERABAD, Jan 13: Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority managing director Ali Mohammad Baloch has hoped that reforms introduced in the agriculture sector will yield positive results.
He admitted that certain problems were cropping up because the reforms programme was a new one in Sindh but expressed the hope that newly-appointed social organizers and field assistants would remove the bottlenecks.
Mr Baloch was speaking at the inaugural session of a six-day training workshop for the social organizers and filed assistants under the water management programme here the other day.
On-Farm Water Management director general Shaukat Ali Rahimoon regretted that less attention was being paid to creating awareness among farmers about benefits of the agricultural reforms.
He pointed out that many other programmes had failed due to lack of awareness. However, he maintained that the social organisers and field assistants after completing their training would be able to create awareness among farmers.
Sida, transition, general manager Prof Aijaz Ahmad Qureshi said there was a general impression that performance of farmers' organizations was not satisfactory.
