LAHORE: Amir Munir named in another fraud

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 11: The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment on Tuesday nominated Ravi Town Nazim Amir Munir in another FIR for embezzlement of Rs4 million in a streetlight contract.

An ACE spokesman told Dawn that the FIR was registered after investigation. Amir Munir is now accused of embezzlement of around Rs44 million development funds.

He had embezzled funds in award of streetlight contracts, leasing out contract of tax collection on transfer of immovable property for 2004-05, unauthorized collection of building plan fee and causing a loss to the exchequer in more than 200 schemes. Besides, he used to deduct amount from the salaries of the work-charge employees.

Besides him, six town officials, three of them in custody, have already been booked under sections 420, 468, 471, 409 and 218 of the PPC. He fled from an anti-corruption court in the last week of December after his interim bail was cancelled.

Two ACE teams, one of headquarters and the other of Lahore office, have not yet been able to arrest him despite several raids. There are rumours that he has fled to Dubai and residing with his friend.

The ACE spokesman denied the report, saying that his name was on the ECL, therefore, he could not leave the country. He said Munir would be declared a proclaimed offender this week if he did not appear before an anti-corruption court as he had been served with third summon.
