KARACHI: High-level moot decides to expedite uplift work - Impediments to be removed


KARACHI, Jan 11: A high-level meeting here on Tuesday took stock of the impediments in the way of ongoing development schemes, and decided that all encroachments coming in the way of construction of Hino Chowk , Korangi Flyover and Quaidabad Flyover and other projects would be removed.

The meeting, presided over by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan and attended by the officials of various agencies, was convened to review the progress on various ongoing development projects being undertaken under the Tameer-i-Karachi package.

The meeting was informed that work on widening of Mai Kalachi Road had begun and tenders have been invited for work on Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road, and were being scrutinized.

During the meeting, the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, talked to the managing director of KESC and sought his assistance for shifting of electric poles coming in the way of projects. The KESC MD assured that these would be shifted.

The Nazim emphasised that in order to ensure timely completion of development projects under Taameer-i-Karachi package, an all-out cooperation would be necessary among all the organizations providing basic facilities.

He directed that a traffic management plan be chalked out for Hino Chowk, Korangi flyover and other development projects so that people may not face any problem during construction work.

Niamatullah Khan expressed concern over non-participation of the Export Promotion Bureau representative and said like other stakeholders, the EPB should also take part in the Tameer-i-Karachi programme and start development works for infrastructure improvement in Korangi, Landhi, Federal B Area and North Karachi industrial estates.

He said this would help develop industrial areas and people would get jobs. The meeting reviewed the project of linking the airport intersection with the Malir Bridge and Korangi-8000 road with Sharah-i-Mehran.

It was further informed that the Export Processing Zone Authority and Pakistan Railway would jointly finance the project of linking Mehran Highway with the National highway.

The railway authorities would submit a PC-I of the project for approval by its headquarters in Lahore. The meeting was informed that tenders have been invited for construction of a road from slaughterhouse, Mehran highway to Port Qasim, measuring 1.6 km. The NLC has started construction of 4.8 km Shahrah-i-Ghalib that would be completed in three phases.

Those who attended the meeting included Brig Junaid of Headquarter Engineer 5-Corps, Brig Sajid Imtiaz of PIA, Lt-Col E Syed Akbar Hussain of Export Processing Zone, Nazimuddin Qureshi of Pakistan Railways, Abdul Razzak Noor of Pakistan Steel, Saeed A Soomro of KPT, officials of National Highway Authority, Nespak, City Government and others.

Meanwhile, the City Nazim on Monday night inaugurated a lease camp office at Moria Khan goth in Shah Faisal town to award leases to the residents. The nazim also opened lease camps at Quaidabad and Muzaffarabad colonies.

Speaking on the occasion, the Nazim said that the residents of Roshanabad and Natha Khan goth would also be granted leases because the residents of katchi abadies have played vital role in the development of the city. -APP/PPI
