Struggle against army rule to continue: JI

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 10: The consultative body (Central Majlis-i-Shoora) of the Jamaat-i-Islami has announced that it will continue its struggle against army rule, restoration of 1973 constitution and help the masses rid of problems on the MMA's platform.

The body meeting which began on Friday ended at Mansoora here on Monday with a note that the Jamaat-i-Islami would not allow the government to implement the US agenda in Pakistan.

"Bypassing parliament, cabinet and political parties, a single person is taking decisions on the issues of national importance," it observed. "In the name of enlightenment the government was working on the creation of a Western society," it said, adding that it was also negating the two-nation theory.

The Shoora also criticised President Gen Musharraf for backing out of its commitment on shedding uniform by Dec 31, 2004. It said the president's act earned bad name for the army which should be condemned at all levels.
