PRM criticizes 'action' against Okara tenants

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: The People's Rights Movement (PRM) has criticized what it termed an attack launched by the military against the tenants of Okara farms in Chak No. 15-4/L.

The PRM, in a press release, claimed the a woman was severely injured and a tenant taken into custody when approximately 200 soldiers in uniform arrived in the fields. The armymen attempted to stop the tenants from working on their land and surrender their right to occupation, it added.

The press release said hundreds of people gathered immediately and tenants from other Chaks also arrived before "the soldiers charged into the crowd beating men, women and children alike with batons and dragged male tenants away so as to abduct them."

Anjuman Mazareen Punjab (AMP), the representatives body of the tenants, has said this action by the military would not go unchallenged. The AMP has threatened a road-block on the G.T. Road if the "captured tenants" are not released and the soldiers do not withdraw from the land.
