ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: Federal Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has said the government is dedicated to successfully implementing the deregulation process for the growth of telecom sector.

He stated this at a 'Training Seminar on IT and Telecom for Journalists' organized by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) here on Monday. The minister said telecom sector in Pakistan achieved tremendous growth over the last four years with a massive investment coming in the wake of deregulation.

"This success has improved the country's image abroad as a safe and investment- friendly place." Mr Leghari said the success of deregulation policy unveiled by the government had exposed the entrepreneurial spirit of Pakistanis, helping businesses flourish and the telecom sector grow at a tremendous rate.

He said the government was encouraging private-public partnerships and would help companies and individuals seeking to use IT as an enabler to improve efficiency in public services.

He said there were plenty of opportunities for the companies to benefit from the incentives and opportunities Pakistan was offering in Information Technology sector. Earlier, PSEB Managing Director Dr Aamir Mateen dilated upon the growth of IT and telecom industry in Pakistan.

He underlined the need for quality improvement in the country's IT products to meet competition at the international level. He said returns in IT sector could be immediate with immense growth rate because it was people-intensive. - APP
