KARACHI, Jan 10: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that the City Government is working for development of Karachi, along with towns and union councils.

He said in order to ensure an effective participation of UCs in development works, the City Government provided Rs6.5 million to them every year as a result of which their performance has improved.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Talib Chaman Model Park at North Nazimabad Town on Sunday night, the city nazim said "we are serving the City by putting in all our energies and by adhering to principles of transparency and honesty for improvement of traffic system, water supply, sewerage, road construction and infrastructure building, which has resulted in a visible improvement."

Naimatullah Khan said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz would inaugurate the City Government's cardiovascular hospital in Federal B. Area on Jan 28. He said that it had been his emphasis to improve transport sector as well as to improve other services.

Expressing gratitude to President Pervez Musharraf for approving Rs29 billion Karachi package for development of the city, he said that it was being implemented, and Karachi would improve further after full implementation of this package.

The nazim said that for the first time in the history of this city, the organizations like KPT, Pakistan Steel, Export Processing Zone and other federal stake-holders have contributed towards improving the city's infrastructure.

"I have also drawn the attention of other government institutions towards their responsibility to contribute towards the development of Karachi as it has given them prosperity", Mr Khan added.

Town Nazim North Nazimabad Fasihuddin Siddiqui, Town Nazim Liaquatabad Dr. Pervez Mehmood, UC Nazim Qazi Sadruddin, DO Parks Liaquat Ali Khan and Deputy Parliamentary Leader MMA in Sindh Assembly Nasrullah Shajji also spoke. -APP/PPI
