GUJRANWALA: Protest against ban on plying rickshaws on GT Road

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Jan 10: Motorcycle rickshaw owners on Monday staged a protest demonstration against a ban on plying their vehicles on the GT Road by the district administration and regional transport authority (RTA).

They gathered in the People's Colony linking GT Road and chanted slogans against the district administration and RTA. Later, they marched on the GT Road. Motorcycle Rickshaw Owners Association president Ajmal Khan alleged that the district administration and RTA secretary had made the life of small vehicle owners miserable by imposing Rs3,000 to Rs5,000 fines on them.

He said the district administration and RTA were rendering hundreds of people jobless by imposing ban on plying of their vehicles on the GT Road. The participants alleged that the step has been taken to benefit the franchized bus owners and demanded that the ban should be lifted immediately.
