MARDAN: Mardan Bar polls

MARDAN, Jan 10: The National Lawyers' Forum (NLF), affiliated with the Awami National Party, and the People's Lawyers Forum (PLF), having affiliation with the People's Party Parliamentarians , have formed an alliance for contesting the elections of the District Bar Association to be held on Jan 15.

Senior advocate Syed Shahzad Gul Bachaa has been nominated as the election commissioner with Shamsul Qamar, Ahmed Ali Khan and Qazi Aqil as the commission members.

Under the alliance, it is learnt, the PLF will put up its candidate for the presidency of the Bar and the NLF will contest for the post of general secretary. Candidates for rest of the office-bearers have yet to be decided.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that only two candidates are in the field for the Bar presidency. They are: Iqbal Khan of the Islamic Lawyers Movement (ILM) and an independent and former president of the DBA Mukhtyar Bachaa.
