FAISALABAD, Jan 10: The Punjab government is considering to give the Tehsil Municipal Administration (city) status of city district under the new local council setup so that the third largest city of the country could be modernized.

This was claimed by provincial PML secretary general and Communication and Works Minister Chaudhry Zaheeruddin Khan while talking to a delegation of local PML office-bearers.

Mr Khan said the Faisalabad city TMA was the biggest tehsil of the country. He claimed that the chief minister was paying special attention for the development of the city for which funds had been allocated.

The provincial finance department had been asked to provide funds for the purpose, he added. He said a master plan was being formulated for improving the city roads and infrastructure and provision of basic amenities to the public.

A housing project for the government employees was also being considered. Besides, an industrial estate was also being planned. About the organizational structure of the PML, the Punjab secretary general said dedicated workers would be given due respect and main offices. The head of the delegation, Rana Zahid Mahmood, assured the minister that efforts would be made to sweep the next local council elections.
