KARACHI: Maidservant receives burn injuries

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 9: A maidservant was badly injured after she burnt herself at a bungalow in CP Barar Society on Saturday. Police said Asiya, 16, was brought to the Civil Hospital with 98 per cent burn injuries.

She told the police that she worked at a bungalow in CP Barar Society where Amanat, 20, also worked as a servant. He molested her and she complained about it to her employers, who admonished Amanat.

However, Amanat did not stop and tried to rape Asiya, but did not succeed, she alleged. She, in utter embarrassment and depression, set herself ablaze. The SHO Bahadurabad, Tariq Malik, said the girl had altered her statement, accusing the son of her employer of teasing her and trying to rape her. "We have arrested Amanat and will pick up the son of the employer for investigation," he added.

ASI KILLED: A police official was shot dead while trying to loot a family in North Karachi. In his report to the police, Nasir Kamal said that he along with his family reached home late night from a wedding ceremony.

As he stopped his car in front of his house in Sector 11-C, North Karachi, some unidentified men took them hostage at gunpoint. They started looting money and jewellery from him and his wife.

At that very moment his brother-in-law peeped through the window from the house, and sensing some foul play, fired at the robbers, who also returned fire and fled away. However, one of them received fatal bullet wounds and died on the spot.

The Sir Syed Town police reached the scene and sent the body to a hospital for autopsy where he was identified as Shakir Ali, assistant sub-inspector at the ACLC Sharifabad.
