GUJRAT, Jan 9: Lalamusa Sadar police could not arrest till Sunday any of the nominated accused involved in the killing of former MNA Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah and three aides.

The police arrested some of the suspects and kept them at Kharian Cantonment police station, but none of them was nominated in the case. Former MNA Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah was ambushed and shot dead along with three aides by his opponents near Theekarian last Sunday.

Lalamusa Sadar police had registered a case against 18 nominated accused on the compliant of slain MNA's brother Syed Mohsin Ali Shah on Jan 2. The nominated accused are: Muzamil Hussain, Yasir Hussain, Shafqat Ali, Sagheer Hussain, Fazal Abbas, Mazhar Hussain, Waqar Abbas, Shafaat Hussain, Samar Abbas, Qasim Ali, Qamar Abbas, Tasawwar Hussain, Imran Nazir, Jabran, Nazir Ahmad and Safdar Hussain of Dhola village and Nasir and Qaiser of Jorra village.

Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had also directed the police to arrest the killers immediately, but no progress had so far been made. Sadar SHO Arif Gondal told Dawn by phone that they had been conducting raids to arrest the nominated accused. He said the accused had left their houses and gone into hiding. However, he claimed that the police would soon arrest them.
