JHANG: Liquor claims five lives in Jhang

JHANG, Jan 8: Five drunkards died on Saturday at the emergency ward of the DHQ hospital. Reports said Zulfiqar, Kamran, Mohammad Afzal, Imtiaz and Shehzad allegedly purchased two bottles of liquor from Asghar and Jan Mohammad and went to the shop of their friend in Mohallah Sultanwala. Later, they were taken to the hospital in a critical condition and died one after the other.

The bodies were handed over to the heirs after autopsy. No case had been registered till the filing of this report.

shot dead: The caretaker of Hazrat Mahabali Sharif's shrine was shot dead on Friday in the Qadirpur police limits.

Mumtaz Husain has been serving the shrine for the last few years as caretaker (mutwalli) of the shrine of Hazrat Mahabali. On Friday, at about 11am when he was going to the shrine from his house, he was stopped by alleged proclaimed offender Murid Husain and his three accomplices riding horses. They opened fire on Mumtaz killing him on the spot.

Mumtaz was the son of a retired patwari.

Old enmity is stated to be the motive behind the murder.
