LANDI KOTAL: Students protest at power crisis in Bara

By Ibrahim Shinwari

LANDI KOTAL, Jan 8: Khasadar force resorted to aerial firing on Saturday to disperse a students' procession protesting against frequent load-shedding in Bara, Khyber Agency, eyewitnesses said.

The students clashed with the tribal law enforcement agency and pelted shops with stones to express their anger against unscheduled load-shedding in the remote area. No casualty has been reported.

The witnesses said the students of Government High School Alam Godder, Bara tehsil, chanting slogans against the Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco), were marching towards the main bazaar.

They pelted shops and other business outlets with stones, damaging windows of several shops. The political authorities called out Khasadar force to control the situation, who resorted to aerial firing.

The students also broke the security cordon and marched towards the grid station raising slogans.

They complained that the unscheduled load-shedding had not only effected commercial activities, but also routine life.

The protesters dispersed when the political authorities and Tesco officials assured them that their grievances would be conveyed to the high-ups.
