KARACHI: Solidarity expressed with disaster victims
KARACHI, Jan 7: As elsewhere in the country, Youm-i-Dua was observed in Karachi on Friday to express solidarity with the victims of the tsunami of South and South East Asia.
Various social, political organisations and NGOs have established a number of camps in the city for collection of relief goods for the affectees of tsunami. Prayers were offered for the victims of the tsunami and for the early recovery of the injured in mosques of the city.
An Ijtamai Dua was offered at the New Memon Masjid, Boulton Market. Ulema in their speeches in Friday sermons called upon the people to extend maximum help in all form so that the aid is immediately dispatched to the afffected countries.
The Youm-i-Dua was also observed at the University of Karachi and other educational institutions. The Principal St. Joseph's College, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Anjum, said that the students of her institution would also raise funds for the victims of tsunami.
Ms Farha Nasimof the Iqra University said that the students of the varsity would also raise funds for the tsunami victims. The Ladies Forum of Pakistan also observed the "Youm-e-Dua" on Friday.
Chair person of the forum Ms. Farzana Rehman, said that their organization was making arrangement for raising cash and relief goods for the victims of this disaster. -APP
