HYDERABAD, Jan 6: The deputy Opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, Makhdoom Jamil-uz-Zaman, and MPA Sassui Palijo have submitted two separate resolutions to the secretary of the Sindh Assembly for the repeal of Hudood (punishment of Zina) Ordinance 1979 by the federal government.

The notice for the resolution reads: 'The assembly re solves and recommends to the government of Sindh that it should approach the federal government to repeal Hudood (punishment for Zina) Ordinance 1979.'

It states 'this house is of the view that while Islam prescribes Hadd (punishments for certain offences), the punishments prescribed and enforced under the ordinance are un-Islamic.'

Talking to Dawn Makhdoom Jamil-uz-Zaman and Sassui Palijo said the karo kari bill passed in haste by the federal government was incomplete. They said it was remnant of the army dictator Gen Ziaul Haq and it was incumbent on the part of the government to discuss the bill moved by the PPP in the house and take all the parties into confidence.

They regretted that the majority party in the house failed to take the human rights and women organizations into confidence. They claimed the bill was full of defects and based on malafide intensions. They recalled that Senator Farhatullah Babar of the PPP had also deposited a resolution with the senate secretary in this regard.
