KARACHI, Jan 6: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a trial against 11 activists of the Jundullah, who are facing charges of allegedly attacking the motorcade of the Corps Commander in June this year.

"The hearing could not proceed as some defence counsel did not appear before the court," defence counsel Mushtaq Ahmed said. ATC Judge Feroz Mehmood Bhatti, who is conducting trial in central jail fixed Jan 19 for the next hearing.

Attur Rehman alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, Yaqoob Saeed, Uzair Ahmed, Shoib Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah, Khurrum Saifullah, Shahzad Mukhtar and Khalid Rao are charged with attacking the motorcade of the then Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ahsan Saleem Hayat, on June 10 in Clifton.

BLAST CASE: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a trial against Gul Hasan alias Ali Haider, an activist of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, in Imambargah Haidery bomb blast case after deposition of prosecution witnesses.

LJ's activist, with other absconding co-accused Asif Choto, Abdul Salam, Qasim, Mufti Eid Mohammad, allegedly prepared police constable Akbar Khan Niazi for a suicide bomb attack on Imambargah Hyderi.

As many as 23 worshipers were killed while 98 others injured when suicide attacker blew him self up during Friday prayer on May 7. Wasi Haider, an official of National Bank of Pakistan, who was injured in the blast, recorded his statement. However, during cross-examination, he said he did not see any policeman in mosque while coming.

Another witness, Dr Ahmed Ali Memon of Civil hospital Karachi who treated 13 injured of the blast, said the injured were conscious during treatment. On a query by defence counsel, Mushtaq Ahmed, he said neither did the policemen obtain any statements from the injured, nor did they ask for any permission from him in this regard. ATC Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch, after examination of witnesses, fixed Jan 8for the next hearing. -PPI
