KARACHI, Jan 5: Prosecution on Wednesday closed side before Anti- Terrorism Court in Karachi in a trial against Dr Akmal Waheed and his brother Dr Arshad Waheed after cross-examination of its final witness.

Dr Akmal Waheed, a cardiac specialist of NICVD and Dr Arshad Waheed, a kidney physician of JPMC, are facing charges for sheltering Al Qaeda, Jundullah activists, providing them funds and medical treatment.

The defence counsel of doctor brothers concluded cross-examination on investigation officer Mohammad Ajmal Awan who during cross-examination admitted that except for one police inspector Tariq, IO in corps commander case against Jundullah activists, none of the prosecution witnesses had deposed that doctor brothers had any links with Jundullah organization or they ever sent any member to Wana for training.

The witness atated in affirmative on a query by defence counsel that none of the witnesses had stated that the doctor brothers had extended any help to terrorist organizations.

ATC Judge Feroz Mehmood Bhatti, who is conducting the trial in central jail Karachi, later adjourned the hearing for Jan 8 for statement of accused. Prosecution was conducted by Special Public Prosecutor I.A. Hashmi while the defense team comprised M. Ilyas Khan and Mohammad Farooq. -PPI
