NEW DELHI, Jan 5: Pakistan on Wednesday honoured the memory of Jyotindra Nath Dixit, India's late national security adviser, when a wreath was placed on his funeral pyre on behalf of Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri.
Earlier Mr Kasuri had written a personal condolence message to Anu Dixit, Mr Dixits widow, in which he had expressed admiration for the veteran diplomat's skills and contribution to peace talks with Pakistan.
The mortal remains were consigned to flames at Brar Square Crematorium amidst chanting of Vedic hymns, Dixit's son Ashok Dixit lit the pyre. Pakistan's High Commisioner Aziz Ahmd Khan was among those who placed a wreath.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Sri Lankan Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva and a large number of Mr Dixit's friends were present.
Mani Dixit, as he was popularly known, died after suffering a massive heart attack on Monday. The 68-year-old Dixit was the government's point man in the dialogue process with Pakistan, China and the United States.
