KARACHI, Jan. 4: Two motorcycle snatchers were gunned down by a police squad of an SSP in Lyari on Tuesday evening.
Police said two suspects were trying to snatch a motorcycle of a man near Lea Market. As the motorcyclist offered resistance, they opened fire on him.
Meanwhile, the police squad of SSP Investigation, Mir Zubair Mehmood, who was passing through the area saw the incident and opened fire on suspects, as a result of which two persons received serious injuries.
The injured were taken to Civil Hospital where the two were pronounced dead on arrival. The injured motorcyclist was identified as Mohammad Anwar, 35, and he was also shifted to the CHK for treatment.
The victim was a resident of Metroville Site and was a garment worker, police said. SSP Mir Zubair Mehmood was recently assigned an additional charge of policing in Lyari.
TPO Lyari Malick Mazhar told Dawn that the two suspects aged between 18 to 20 could not be identified, but the area people said the two belonged to Nayabad Kalri. In another development, the police on Tuesday arrested three accomplices belonging to the notorious Arshad Pappoo gang after an encounter in Lyari.
TPO Lyari Malick Mazhar Hussein told Dawn that on a tip off a police party reached the Saifee Lane in Baghdadi. As the police reached the spot, the suspects opened fire and tried to escape by entering the house and alleyways. Police chased the suspects and finally nabbed them from Saifee Lane Street No 2.
The three arrested suspects were identified as Ismail alias Afghani, Abdul Jabbar and Arif. The three suspects were wanted in around a dozen cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom. Police recovered TT pistols and a several dozen live rounds from their possession.
KILLED: A cattle-pen owner was killed after being kidnapped by unknown men. His bullet riddled body was found in Manghopir on Tuesday. Police said Mohammad Ashraf, 45, a cattle-pen owner, was kidnapped by unknown persons on Dec 5.
Police said following his kidnapping, a ransom call demanding Rs30,000 was made, but reportedly the ransom amount could not be arranged. The police also failed to find a clue to the victim. Police said on Tuesday morning, victim's bullet riddled body was found from bushes. Police said that body bore at least 12 to 13 bullets. Police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
