KHAIRPUR, Jan 4: An ASI, Momin Khaskheli, was shot dead by a constable when he was having dinner at a restaurant near here on Monday night.

Constable Rajab Sodhro, who is accused of having opened fire on the ASI with his official Kalashnikov, was later arrested by the A-section police.

The cause of the murder is said to be an old enmity. The police officer was buried in his native village Waryam Khaskheli, Thari Mirwah taluka, on Tuesday.

CIVIC PROBLEMS: Patron of the Luqman Shehri Ittehad Haji Munir Arain has said that Luqman town has been deprived of basic facilities and it lacks proper sanitation, street lights and roads.

Speaking at a gathering, he said that Luqman was older than the Khairpur state and its handicrafts were popular in the sub-continent and exported abroad but it was being ruined today.

President of the Ittehad Mohammad Qasim Solangi and general secretary Hakim Ali Jat complained that police harassed residents of the town. They said that sanitation staff of Luqman served at residences of government officers and politicians and neglected its duty. They warned of launching a protest campaign if civic problems of the town were not solved.
