'Holding of two offices violative of constitution'

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2: President Gen Pervez Musharraf's decision to retain two offices has violated Article 244 of the Constitution, Jamaat-i-Islami Islamabad chapter Ameer MNA Mian Mohammad Aslam claimed here on Sunday.

During a visit to Dawn office, he said the MMA would continue its campaign against the uniform and set a new precedent in the country's history of forcing a military ruler to doff off his uniform.

He said the stance taken by the MMA on the issue would ensure that no future military general violated the Constitution. He said the religious parties had decided to challenge President Gen Musharraf's decision in the people's courts and not in the Supreme Court as the general had gone back on a commitment made to the people's representatives in the MMA.
