KARACHI: Ibad wants hiring powers vested in city nazim
KARACHI, Dec 31: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has taken strict notice of the illegal occupation of precious land on the outskirts of the city and manipulation in their official records.
Presiding over a high-level meeting at the Governor's House on Friday, he directed the concerned authorities to make the muktiarkar and tapedar system transparent. He also directed that the nazim of Karachi be authorized for the appointment of such officials as per the relevant rules and regulations.
Dr Ibad ordered an immediate inquiry against the mukhtiarkars and tapedars accused of being involved in corruption, and said that their cases be referred to the Anti-corruption Establishment.
He also directed that the additional revenue staff posted at the city district government Karachi be sent back to the Board of Revenue. Calling for activating the anti-encroachment task force, he asked the home department and police to extend all cooperation to the city government.
The meeting was told that the notification regarding the CDGK's police station would be issued within two days. The police station would have the entire city as its jurisdiction. Sufficient staff with an officer of SP's rank would be appointed for the task force.
The governor ordered that the police station be made operational by January 10 after completing all the required arrangements. He advised landowners, government departments, police authorities and elected representatives to keep an eye on encroachers and get the encroachment removed with the help of the concerned authorities.
Minister for Planning and Development Shoaib Bukhari, Adviser to the chief Minister on Local Bodies Wasim Akhtar, City Nazim Niamatullah Khan, DCO Fazlur Rehman and ACS Salim Khan were among those present at the meeting.
RELIEF CELL: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has accorded approval to a plan for the setting up of a relief cell at the Governor's House to meet any eventuality and asked the concerned officials to take steps in this respect.
The plan was proposed by a delegation of the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology led by its Chancellor Mr Z. A. Nizami. The delegation, which included Vice Chancellor Dr Nazeer Ali and Zakir Ali Khan, called on Dr Ibad on Friday. -PPI
