KARACHI, Dec 30: Enraged people set a minibus on fire in Federal B Area after it knocked down a young girl on Thursday.

The victim, Aisha Khalid, 20, along with her mother and sisters had boarded the minibus of route P-3 at Lasbela and was trying to get down at Aisha Manzil intersection.

However, she lost her balance as the driver accelerated the vehicle. Aisha fell down and her mother and sisters raised a hue and cry, but she was crushed under the rear wheels before the driver could stop the vehicle. She died on the spot.

Passengers of the minibus and the people gathered around got provoked and set the minibus on fire the driver, however, managed to escape. The Gulberg police reached the spot and tried to disperse the enraged people but they also pelted the police party and passing vehicles with stones.

The police applied baton charge to bring the situation under control. The minibus was impounded and taken to the police station. A case was registered against the driver.

In another incident, an unknown man in his late 20s, died after being hit by a train in Drigh Colony. His body was taken to the JPMC for autopsy and later sent to the Edhi morgue for identification.
