LAHORE, Dec 29: A splendid century by Shoaib Khan and his sixth wicket partnership of 168-runs with Akhtar Sarfraz, not only rescue Peshawar from a batting collapse but also helped the visitors earn 53 runs lead
on first innings
against Faisalabad on second day of Quaid-i-Azam Trophy final at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad on Wednesday.
Shoaib, who had caught the eyes by taking five catches of as a fielder in home team's first innings, excelled with the leather scoring a timely 108 while Akhtar remained unlucky not to complete a century by five runs as Peshawar were 279 for nine while replying to Faisalabad first innings total of 226.
Peshawar's last man Fazle Akbar did not come to bat due to fitness problem. Shoaib cracked 15 fours and a six in 172-ball knock before he was bowled bySami Niazi, who finished with three wickets for 71.
Earlier, part-time off-spinner Mohammed Hafeez broke the partnership by taking the prize wicket of Sarfraz, who had smashed 14 boundaries off 130 balls. He was clean bowled. Both Shoaib and Sarfraz joined hands when Peshawar had lost five wickets for 59 after the visitors resumed the first innings at 2-36.
Peshawar scored 53 runs before losing three remaining wickets in which Shoaib had major contribution. Medium-pacer Shahid Nazir did main damage to Peshawar with a haul of five wickets for 56. By close of play, Faisalabad were 30 without loss 23 runs behind to wipe out the first innings deficit.
