PPP MPAs' attitude led to adjournment, says speaker

KARACHI, Dec 28: Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah has said that despite the indulgence he showed to the opposition during the whole session on Tuesday
, the PPP member, Syed Murad Ali Shah, appeared adamant not to discipline himself and maintain decorum of the house.
This, he added, had left him with no option but to adjourn the session under Rule 197(f). The speaker was talking to a group of journalists in his assembly chamber soon after adjourning the session for the day.
The PPP member, who had severely criticized the speaker accusing him of partiality, had also refused to obey the chair's repeated directive to withdraw from the deliberations.
The speaker said: "It is unfortunate that the opposition is not serious in getting its own agenda discussed as was manifested in Murad Ali Shah's attitude. They (opposition benches) want the speaker to follow whatever they dictate and if the speaker does not come to their terms, they would accuse him of partiality.
It is not possible for me to oblige only the opposition and ignore the treasury benches. Being the speaker, I am under obligation to listen to both the sides," he added. He regretted that Murad Ali Shah's tone was objectionable, rude and insolent, and pointed out that despite his repeated directives to behave, he did not respond positively.
In reply to a question, the speaker said the issue of Kalabagh Dam could also be taken up tomorrow (Wednesday) as it would also be a private member's day, if the resolution on the issue drew from balloting.
In response to another question, he said the censure motion moved by Irfanullah Khan Marwat against the opposition leader was there as no decision about it was taken during the deliberations.
