Action against Sindh official proposed

ISLAMABAD, Dec 27: The Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges on Monday decided to recommend strict disciplinary action against Sindh Food Secretary Mir Mohammad Pariyar.

Disciplinary action was recommended to the Establishment Division against the senior officer for his alleged misbehaviour with public representatives. The committee chairman, Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dareshek, while presiding over the meeting, observed that public servants should adopt helpful and cooperative posture towards public representatives who were also discharging duties in their constituents for public benefit.

The meeting was held here at the Parliament House to consider different privilege motions moved by MNAs Sahibzada Haroonur Rasheed, Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah, Maulana Akbar Chitrali and Hizbullah Bughio.

The relationship between public servants and public representatives should be friendly, cordial and functional, he suggested at the meeting. The committee also discussed the privilege motion of Abdul Akbar Chitrali against the alleged misbehaviour of General Manager Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) at Jeddah airport.

The committee decided to move a motion for an indepth discussion in the parliament after numerous instances of misbehaviour by the PIA officials with pilgrims were identified.

In this regard the committee asked the mover of the motion to submit an adjournment motion so that a two-hour discussion could be held in the National Assembly in the coming session.

Accepting unconditional apology by the district police officer Nowshera, the committee disposed of another privilege motion of Maulana Chitrali against misbehaviour of the Station House Officer (SHO)/Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Police Station, Pabbi near Peshawar.

However, the committee observed that dignity and honour of the public representatives should be upheld at all cost. The meeting was also attended by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan Niazi, MNAs Syed Naveed Qamar, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Zeb Gohar Ayub, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Kunwar Khalid Yunis, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich and Khawaja Mohammad Asif.

Earlier, a meeting of the Standing Committee on Science and Technology was held under the chairmanship of Rehman Naseer Chaudhry at the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).

The chairman stressed that availability of water resources should be enhanced by keeping its quality at the highest level to help improve crops productivity as well as health standards of citizens as water had a direct bearing on all socio-economic sectors.

The PCRWR chairman, Dr Mohammad Akram Kahlown, also briefed the participants about the council's research activities and achievements. About the council's random tests of bottled water available in the market, he said most of the brands were found carrying bacterial and other contaminations.
