Performance of Nepra reviewed

ISLAMABAD, Dec 27: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz while appreciating the performance of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Monday said the authority should encourage new investors in power generation and ensure supply of electricity to the consumers at reasonable tariffs.

The prime minister was briefed about the functions and activities of the Nepra by its Chairman Lt-Gen (retired) Saeed-uz-Zafar. The prime minister said the coal based power generation and hydel power generation should be encouraged to lessen dependence on thermal power.

He said the government had taken initiative to set up hydel power stations in the country and added that the thermal powerhouses were being converted to gas to reduce the generation cost so that electricity could be supplied to the consumers at much lesser cost.

The prime minister said the demand for electricity was increasing fast due to rising economic activities. -APP
