KARACHI, Dec 27: Khushbakht Shujaat, Aneeq Ahmed and Rizwan Siddiqui have been elected vice president, honourary secretary and treasurer, respectively, in the Arts Council elections.

Ms Shujaat polled 869 votes, Mr Ahmed 898 votes and Mr Siddiqui 911 votes in the elections held on Sunday.

At least three panels took part in the polls. According to the results, which were declared by Karachi District Coordination Officer Fazlur Rahman on Monday morning, the panels led by Ms Shujaat and Syed Azfar Rizvi notched up six slots each in the governing body. Saifur Rahman Grami, former honourary secretary of the Arts Council, obtained the highest number of votes.

Those who were elected governing body members were Mr Grami (1043 votes), Prof Sahar Ansari (912 votes), Kamal Ahmad Rizvi (879 votes), Shahnaz Siddiqui (875 votes), Mohammad Ayub (867 votes), Samina Pirzada (865 votes), Naila Jafri (854 votes), Dr Rehana Mohammad Ali Shah (841 votes), Owais Adeeb Ansari (811 votes), Nayyara Noor (810 votes), Kazim Pasha (788 votes) and Seema Tahir Khan (778 votes).

At least 2,703 members of the Arts Council were eligible to vote, but only 1,720 members cast their vote.
