KARACHI, Dec 27: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Monday held a protest demonstration against US intervention in Pakistan, military operation against tribesmen in Waziristan and holding of dual offices by President Pervez Musharraf at the Dawood Chowrangi in Landhi.

The demonstrators, gathered at Dawood Chowranwgi Landhi, were holding banners against unemployment and poverty in the country and other issues. They also chanted slogans against Musharraf's option on Kashmir and army intervention in politics.

Addressing the occasion, the MMA leaders, Kamal Farooqui, Meharuddin Afzal vowed that the MMA would continue its struggle until the supremacy of Constitution and Parliament was restored and problems of the masses were resolved.

They warned President Musharraf of strong resistance if he did not leave the office of Chief of Army Staff before December 31, 2004. "President Musharraf's refusal to leave the post of COAS will be considered a violation of the Constitution," they mentioned.

"The MMA wants the army to focus on its constitutional obligation i.e. safeguarding the geographical borders of the country," they added. They said public support for the MMA in its campaign against Musharraf's uniform had proved that people believed in the sovereignty of Parliament and supremacy of justice. - PPI
