PESHAWAR: PDC approves Rs10m development funds
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR, Dec 25: The Peshawar District Council (PDC) has approved Rs10.4 million uplift funds to be used by Citizen Community Boards (CCBs). The council on Friday approved 41 development schemes.
Dr Iqbal Khalil, convener of PDC presided over the session. There is a well-established criteria for distribution of funds in the CCBs and each board would not be given more than Rs500,000, the convener said.
He said there were a total of 54 CCBs at the district level but some of them needed to be completed yet. He directed the members to complete their developmental schemes through CCBs earlier.
For the above schemes 80 per cent funds had been provided by the District Government while the rest would be generated by the community, he said.
On a point of order that some CCBs got more funds, the convener constituted a two-member committee, consisting of Fazli Rauf and Shumaila Tabbassum to find out which of the CCB got more funds.
The council formed four more monitoring committees to check standard and quality of the developmental works being carried out through the CCBs.
The convener directed the social welfare department officers to release the amount of second instalment for the on-going CCBs works immediately. Through a call attention notice, Mr Aurangzeb Khan said that the House had already passed a resolution regarding fee concession for the children of Town-I employees in Municipal educational institutions.
He regretted that both male and female municipal colleges not granted the fee concession to the children of Town-I employees.
Dr Iqbal Khalil directed chairpersons of male and female educational committees of the council to contact these institutions and resolve the matters with them. He said it was the duty of the DCO to ensure the implementation of the decisions being taken by the council.
Member Anwarul Hassan accused the SHO of Hayatabad of displacing people from their houses in Phase 6 of Hayatabad. He demanded action against the SHO concerned who, he said, was misusing his power and teasing poor residents.
The convener asked the member to provide a written complaint against the SHO so that action could be taken against the police officer concerned.
The debate on Works and Service Committee was in progress when the convener adjourned the session.
